Unison Energy are looking to charge you extra for making a great decision
Hawke’s Bay lines company Unison is introducing an extra charge for solar panel users. Greenpeace think this is a stupid idea.
People install the panels to reduce their power bills, which Unison fears will reduce its income and make its assets hard to maintain, so it is bumping up its charges to make up the difference.
Why Power Genius will help remedy this
The extra charge by Unison would only happen if you use your panels to generate surplus power and feed it back into the national grid. So in theory, the more solar power you generate that you actually use, the better.
If you’re exporting most of it back to the grid during the day, it seems you’re going to get charged for it. Well Mr. Unison, we have the answer to that. It’s called Power Genius. Power Genius intelligently tells appliances and features of your home to switch on during the day when solar power is available. This means the solar power your panels generate during the day is mostly used, rather than being exported to the grid.
From 50% export to as low as 5%
Power Genius intelligently delays power hungry appliances like hot water cylinders, water pumps, and washing machines from turning on until there is spare solar power in your home network.
